About CleverPacker: Why We Started Writing Honest Travel Gear Reviews

Here’s the problem with most travel gear advice online: it’s either written by someone who’s never actually owned the product they’re recommending, or it’s a thinly disguised affiliate page ranking ten “best” suitcases that are really just whatever pays the highest commission.

CleverPacker exists because we got frustrated with both of those things.

We’re not a big media company. We’re not backed by a luggage brand. We’re a small team that cares way more than we probably should about the difference between ballistic nylon and ripstop nylon, why some “carry-on approved” bags still get gate-checked, and whether that 3-piece luggage set is actually a deal or just clever pricing.

What CleverPacker Actually Does

Every guide on this site starts with a real question usually one we’ve asked ourselves before a trip. Things like:

  • Will this bag actually survive a year of budget airline baggage handlers?
  • Is the extra $80 for a hardshell suitcase worth it, or is softshell fine for how I actually travel?
  • What’s the real difference between these three “TSA-approved” locks?
  • Why do some 22-inch carry-ons get accepted everywhere, and others get stopped at the gate?

We research specs, compare warranty terms line by line, read through hundreds of verified owner reviews (not just the five-star ones), and try to give you a straight answer including when the honest answer is “it doesn’t really matter, buy whichever one is cheaper.”

What CleverPacker Won’t Do

  • We won’t recommend something just because it has a good affiliate commission attached.
  • We won’t publish a “review” of a product we haven’t actually researched thoroughly.
  • We won’t pad out a list with 15 mediocre options just to make the article longer.
  • We won’t pretend every product is perfect. If something has a real downside, we’ll tell you.

How CleverPacker Stays Current

Luggage brands release new models constantly, warranty terms change, and airline baggage policies shift more often than you’d think. Because of that, CleverPacker isn’t a “write it once and forget it” site we revisit and update our guides as the products and rules they cover actually change. If a recommendation goes out of date, we’d rather fix it than leave it up for the traffic.

Who’s Behind CleverPacker

CleverPacker is written and researched by a small editorial team. We’re not one person with a fabricated bio and a stock photo we’re a working group that focuses specifically on travel gear, packing methods, and the practical logistics of getting from point A to point B without your luggage falling apart along the way.
